I am Professor in the School of Global Policy and Strategy and the Department of Political Science at the University of California San Diego. I am also the co-Principal Investigator of the California Violence Experiences Survey (CalVEX) and the Violence Experiences (VEX) projects.
My research examines political violence and conflict processes with an emphasis on non-state actor behavior. My recent projects examine the causes and consequences of women’s participation in political violence and Californians' experiences with violence. My work has been published by Cambridge University Press, American Journal of Political Science, American Political Science Review, Journal of Politics, International Organization, Journal of Peace Research, Conflict Management and Peace Science, Security Studies, African Affairs, among other outlets.
