I am Associate Professor in the School of Global Policy and Strategy and the Department of Political Science at the University of California San Diego. I am also the Principal Investigator of the California Violence Experiences Survey (CalVEX) project.
My research examines political violence and conflict processes with an emphasis on non-state actor behavior. My recent projects examine the causes and consequences of women’s participation in political violence and Californians' experiences with violence. My work has been published in the American Journal of Political Science, American Political Science Review, Journal of Politics, International Organization, Journal of Peace Research, Conflict Management and Peace Science, Security Studies and African Affairs.
Before moving to UCSD, I was associate professor in the Department of Political Science at Michigan State University.
